Hi Dave,

We are busily getting ready for IPEX and preparing for the launch of version 4 of pressSIGN with Spot Color and Pantone Libraries to be sorted out.

I appreciate the need to review and edit a custom target and this will be in place by the Autumn in v 4.

We will be addressing the issue of specialist curve generation later this year. Congratulations on your own work in this area.

Your thoughts are appreciated and it is important that we know in which direction are customers want us to develop the software.

I agree with Dave. I also see the need for more screen patches. 10-25-50-75-90 would help alot. PressSign simply cant make you a nice and even curve and even though your dotgain score is 100% the print result can still be way off the tolerances.

The main problem with editing standards is what to do with existing jobs?

Changing the tolerances and scoring will change the overall score for a job. That's ok for new jobs using the new system, but what about old ones? Clients may have seen reports generated using an existing target.

We can either:
1. Just update the standard. The score would change when the job is re opened (which happens when uploaded) so the score on the open job window would be different before opening to after. Instant change, but inconsistent scoring because you would not be able to track score changes over time.

2. Create a new standard and set all the jobs which use the original standard to a hidden copy of the original. Fairly quick to perform. We can duplicate the original press standard and point the jobs to the duplicate.

3. Create a new standard and update all existing jobs. Can be very slow. Every job that uses the edited standard would need to be opened.

Any thoughts on the problem?

Why not just leave the old jobs old and let us make new jobs with a new strip?

Im considering buying ORIS Certified Press wich will let you make custom strips and also read the more or less standardized strip, ECI TVI10. The new Ugra Tool is also an alternative.
None of them are as nice and easy as PressSign, but one cant hide that fact that they will do a more precise job when it comes to the very important TVI control.

ProofSIGN has different strips so Im sure you know how to do this
